Softball Recap: Elkhart Extends Winning Streak to Six

Elkhart had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 14-4 margin over the Groesbeck Goats. That's more bragging rights for the Elks, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Rylee Lohmeyer made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2024. She was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, Londyn Holland was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Marisa Denny was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-4.

Elkhart hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in eight consecutive contests.

Elkhart's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Groesbeck, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-5.

Looking ahead, Elkhart will square off against Teague at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Elkhart is facing Teague at the right time seeing as Teague is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Groesbeck, they will host Henrietta at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday.
