Preview: Manzanola Bobcats vs. Primero Bulldogs
Manzanola is 0-10 against Primero since January of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Manzanola Bobcats will be staying on the road to face off against the Primero Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. on February 7th. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Canye Trujillo and Brett Kendal.
Manzanola won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Friday. They were dealt a 56-24 loss at the hands of Springfield. While losing is never fun, Manzanola can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 334th, while Springfield is ranked 157th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Mark Holland, who scored six points along with five rebounds. He is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Trujillo was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Primero proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by 21) but on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Kim/Branson 56-54. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Primero.
Manzanola's loss dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Primero, the victory got them back to even at 8-8.
Manzanola came up short against Primero when the teams last played back in February of 2022, falling 43-36. Thankfully for Manzanola, Michael Damelio (who went 6 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 36 points and 0 assists) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
