Basketball Recap: Westside Comes Up Short

If Westside was feeling good fresh off their 78-46 takedown of Aquinas on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Westside Patriots were outmatched by the Cross Creek Razorbacks and fell 66-34. The matchup marked the Patriots' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

When it comes to explaining why Westside lost on Saturday, don't look at Dontrell Jackson. Despite the final result, he posted 17 points in addition to eight boards and three blocks. Those three blocks gave Jackson a new career-high.

Even though they lost, Westside smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Westside's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 8-1 and their overall record down to 11-7. As for Cross Creek, the victory was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-1.

Westside and Cross Creek should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings. Westside (ranked 113th) will meet West Laurens (ranked 242nd) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Similarly, Cross Creek (ranked 15th) will meet Aquinas (ranked 482nd) at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
