Baseball Game Preview: Starkville Yellowjackets vs. Oxford Chargers

The Starkville Yellowjackets will take on the Oxford Chargers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Saturday just wasn't the day for Starkville's offense. They fell 5-0 to Hillcrest on Saturday. Considering the last time the Yellowjackets couldn't score was back in February, the team can't take the result too hard.

Meanwhile, Oxford sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over Pontotoc on Friday.

The team relied heavily on Ford Wade, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Brady Maloney, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run.

Oxford's win bumped their record up to 17-12. As for Starkville, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 15-11.

Starkville came out on top in a nail-biter against Oxford in their previous meeting back in March of 2023, sneaking past 11-10. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Yellowjackets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
