Softball Recap: Eaton Reds vs. Montezuma-Cortez Panthers
Eaton's rock-solid pitcher showed up for the team's fifth consecutive shutout on Saturday. They never let the Montezuma-Cortez Panthers onto the board and left with a 15-0 win. Considering the Reds have won 21 games by more than seven runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Johanna Galvan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, Emma Anderson was incredible, going 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now stolen at least one in the last three games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Isabella Ramsey, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and a stolen base.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Eaton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .650. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .389 or higher in six consecutive matches.
Eaton's victory bumped their record up to 22-3. As for Montezuma-Cortez, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-10.
