Basketball Game Preview: Skowhegan River Hawks vs. Messalonskee Eagles

The Skowhegan River Hawks will wrap up 2024 with a road trip to face off against the Messalonskee Eagles at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Skowhegan will come in still looking for their first win of the season.

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 68-40, which was the final score in Skowhegan's tilt against Brewer on Monday. While losing is never fun, the River Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maine basketball rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while the Witches are ranked eighth).

Meanwhile, Messalonskee's undefeated season came to an end after four games on Thursday. They fell 61-52 to Brewer. The loss was the Eagles' first of the season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Messalonskee fell to 4-1. As for Skowhegan, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.

Skowhegan couldn't quite finish off Messalonskee in their previous meeting back in January and fell 60-58. Can Skowhegan avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
