Recap: Skyline Thunderbirds vs. Southwestern Heights Mustangs
The Skyline Thunderbirds kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They were beaten by Southwestern Heights 56-16. Skyline lost against Southwestern Heights in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 59-23 score last time.
Leading Southwestern Heights to victory were Juanita Puentes and Layla Pearl kisner. Puentes scored 17 points along with 9 steals, while Pearl kisner almost dropped a triple-double on 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 9 steals. Brylee Perez was another key contributor, scoring 2 points along with 7 rebounds and 4 steals.
Skyline's loss dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Southwestern Heights, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Skyline will face off against Kiowa County at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Southwestern Heights, they will head out on the road to face off against Holcomb at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
