The Estill County Engineers will square off against the Rockcastle County Rockets at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Estill County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Estill County fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against North Laurel on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Jaguars by a score of 5-4. The Engineers' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Estill County saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Peyton Henderson, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Callee Snowden was another, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rockcastle County). They put the hurt on Lincoln County with a sharp 15-4 victory on Tuesday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Rockets with their most commanding win of the season.
Sydney Holcomb made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Holcomb was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Addi Lovell was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Makyla Hester, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.
Rockcastle County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lincoln County only posted a batting average of .263.
Rockcastle County is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-13-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. As for Estill County, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-9.
Estill County came out on top in a nail-biter against Rockcastle County in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. Will the Engineers repeat their success, or do the Rockets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
