Basketball Game Preview: Eastern Greene Thunderbirds vs. Barr-Reeve Vikings

Eastern Greene is 0-6 against Barr-Reeve since December of 2015 but things could change on Friday. The Eastern Greene Thunderbirds will head out on the road to face off against the Barr-Reeve Vikings at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Greene is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.8 points per game this season.

On Friday, Eastern Greene needed a bit of extra time to put away Monrovia. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bulldogs, sneaking past 66-63. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Thunderbirds have posted since December 1, 2023.

Eastern Greene got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kyan Hudson out in front who went 6 for 14 on his way to 27 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Coby Sykes, who went 10 of 17 on his way to 23 points and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, Barr-Reeve came up short against Vincennes Lincoln last Saturday and fell 42-35. The contest marked the Vikings' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Eastern Greene will have to keep a close watch on Landon Miller and Seth Wagler, a pair of players who had a big impact on Barr-Reeve's prior game. Miller posted six points and six rebounds, while Wagler put up eight points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Korben Boyd, who had five points.

The victory (which was Eastern Greene's third in a row) raised their record to 4-4. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.3 points per game. As for Barr-Reeve, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-4.

Eastern Greene ended up a good deal behind Barr-Reeve when the teams last played back in December of 2023, losing 53-34. Thankfully for Eastern Greene, Braydon Knepp (who went 8 of 12 on his way to 22 points) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
