Softball Recap: Brownwood Has No Trouble Against Graham

Brownwood made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Graham, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Lions were the clear victors by a 14-5 margin over the Steers on Tuesday. This was a revenge game for the Lions: when they faced off against the Steers back in March, they had to take a 17-3 defeat.

Kaydence Allen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Carlee Burks and Jeniffer Romero did most of the damage at the plate: Burks went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Romero scored four runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5. That's the most runs Burks has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Chloe Walls, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-5.

They weren't the only one making solid contact: Brownwood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Brownwood is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Graham, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-13.

Looking ahead, Brownwood will be playing in front of their home fans against Brock at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their 15th straight victory, something the Lions surely won't give up without a fight. As for Graham, they will head out to face off against Mineral Wells at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
