Baseball Recap: Ashley Takes Down Ranked Grace Christian

Ashley faced Grace Christian in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Screaming Eagle had just enough and edged out the Crusaders 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Screaming Eagle have posted since March 21st.

Cane Mehling spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on seven hits and racked up 11 Ks. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Drew Potter was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

Ashley's win bumped their record up to 16-2. As for Grace Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-4.

Coming up, Ashley will be playing at home against West Johnston at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats' pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so the Screaming Eagle's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Grace Christian, they will take on First Colonial at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Patriots will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Crusaders surely won't give up without a fight.
