Softball Recap: Sherrard Takes a Loss

Sherrard dropped their record down to 17-5 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They lost 8-1 to the Ridgewood [AlWood/Cambridge] Spartans. Having soared to a lofty 20 runs in the game before, the Tigers couldn't push the score so high this time.

Savanah Hauger was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Hauger wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Nadia Anderson, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

As for Ridgewood [AlWood/Cambridge], they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games.

On Ridgewood [AlWood/Cambridge]'s side, Courtney Thomas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up ten Ks.

At the plate, Mackenzie Peck was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Avery Humphrey was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Sherrard didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 11-0 victory against Monmouth-Roseville on the 8th. As for Ridgewood [AlWood/Cambridge], they have also already played their next game, a 10-0 win against Stark County on the 8th.
