Softball Game Preview: Lindale Eagles vs. Athens Hornets

The Lindale Eagles will square off against the Athens Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Considering both teams were shutout in their prior games, the pair is probably coming into this one with something to prove.

Lindale had been on a four-game streak of scoring at least ten runs, but Van put an end to it on Friday. Lindale lost 9-0 to Van. The loss continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Vandals: they've now lost five in a row.

Morgan Keenright spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (three).

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Athens' offense. They came up short against Canton on Tuesday, falling 15-0. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Hornets' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Athens' defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-5. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Lindale, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 12-6-1.

Lindale took their victory against Athens when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 8-2. Does Lindale have another victory up their sleeve, or will Athens turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
