Softball Game Preview: Bishop Gorman Gaels vs. Santa Margarita Eagles

Bishop Gorman hasn't had much luck against Santa Margarita recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Gaels will face off against the Eagles at 3:30 p.m. Bishop Gorman's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Santa Margarita's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Bishop Gorman is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Green Valley, who was ranked 14th at the time (Bishop Gorman was ranked 13th). The Gaels were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over the Gators on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Gaels, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.

MAKAMAE EUGENIO spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on ten hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on CHARLIE SIMI, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was BROOKLYN HICKS, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5.

Meanwhile, Santa Margarita fell victim to Orange Lutheran and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lancers. The Eagles haven't had much luck with the Lancers recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.

Bishop Gorman's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 9-6-1. As for Santa Margarita, their loss dropped their record down to 11-5-1.

Bishop Gorman might still be hurting after the 6-0 defeat they got from Santa Margarita when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Gaels avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
