Basketball Recap: Steamboat Springs Takes a Loss

Steamboat Springs lost against Delta back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Steamboat Springs Sailors were beaten by the Delta Panthers 66-12. While losing is never fun, the Sailors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 242nd in Colorado, while the Panthers are ranked 63rd in Colorado).

Hailey Bender was Steamboat Springs' leading scorer, having posted six points. Bender also led the team in rebounds with seven.

Delta's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Breezy Huff, who posted nine points in addition to seven steals and five assists. Huff has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 11 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Taylor Somers, who went 7-for-11 on her way to 15 points.

Steamboat Springs dropped their record down to 6-15 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Delta, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season.

Steamboat Springs has already played their next contest, a 52-50 victory against Rifle on the 22nd. As for Delta, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 66-16 win against Basalt on the 22nd.
