Baseball Recap: Torrance Beats Woodrow Wilson for Their Fifth Straight Victory

Torrance waltzed into their contest on Monday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They came out on top against the Woodrow Wilson Bruins by a score of 9-4. That's more bragging rights for the Tartars, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

River Martinez made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Noriyoshi Mori and Mateo Rickman did most of the damage at the plate: Mori went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base, while Rickman got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Torrance pushed their record up to 17-9 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Woodrow Wilson, the defeat snapped their winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 19-8 record.

Looking ahead, Torrance will head out to take on St. John Bosco at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The Braves will roll in looking for their 12th straight victory, something the Tartars surely won't give up without a fight. As for Woodrow Wilson, they will host Millikan at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bruins 3, the Rams 2.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
