Emery is a perfect 10-0 against Richfield since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Spartans will head out to square off against the Wildcats at 3:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
As a matter of fact, Emery put up the most runs they have all season on Saturday. They blew past Juan Diego Catholic 16-1. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Kallee Lake made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Lake was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Aleeyah Cowley and Bailey Luke did most of the damage at the plate: Cowley went a perfect 3-for-3 with three doubles, four RBI, and two runs, while Luke scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. What's more, Luke posted two RBI, the most she's had over her last 12 games. Another player making a difference was Katelyn Nielson, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Emery kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Richfield won against North Sevier on Wednesday with 21 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 21-14 margin over Delta. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 3, 2022, but that streak is no more.
Macie Barton was incredible, firing off two home runs, five runs, and two stolen bases while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Jerzy Moon was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing three bases while going 4-for-5.
Richfield pushed their record up to 7-11 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 11 runs. As for Emery, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Emery hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Richfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Emery took their victory against Richfield in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 14-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
