Baseball Game Preview: Mahwah Thunderbirds vs. Westwood Cardinals

For the second straight game, Mahwah will face off against Westwood. The Thunderbirds will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cardinals at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.

Westwood hit Mahwah with a six-run fourth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Thunderbirds fell just short of the Cardinals by a score of 10-9. The Thunderbirds haven't had much luck with the Cardinals recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.

Jake Buonanno was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 5-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He has become a key player for Mahwah: the team is 5-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-5 otherwise. Alex Luchynskyi was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

The win was the fifth in a row for Westwood, bringing their record up to 11-5. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Mahwah, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-7.
