The Sacred Heart-Griffin Cyclones will square off against the Glenwood Titans at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Sacred Heart-Griffin has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with three straight defeats, while Glenwood will come in with five straight victories.
Sacred Heart-Griffin had taken Jacksonville down for four straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Tuesday. The Cyclones took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Crimsons.
Meanwhile, Glenwood's rock-solid pitchers showed up for the team's fifth consecutive shutout on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Springfield Southeast a 14-0 shutout. Considering the Titans have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Andrew Wahlbrink looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Tyler Gurski was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Joe Anderson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Glenwood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in six consecutive games.
Glenwood pushed their record up to 12-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Sacred Heart-Griffin, their loss dropped their record down to 17-7.
Sacred Heart-Griffin was able to grind out a solid win over Glenwood when the teams last played back in April, winning 10-6. Will the Cyclones repeat their success, or do the Titans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
