After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Bayfield, Centauri was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out the Montezuma-Cortez Panthers 3-2. The win continues a trend for the Falcons in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won eight in a row.
Centauri wouldn't go down easily and took Montezuma-Cortez into a fifth set where they got it done with a two-point win. The final score came out to 25-19, 25-17, 23-25, 22-25, 16-14.
Kynlei Curtis paced Centauri's offense, picking up 18 kills. Curtis got some help from Kenadie Wilfong and her 41 assists. Curtis also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Aubree Ullery, each putting up five.
Centauri's victory bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Montezuma-Cortez, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-7.
Looking ahead, Centauri will be playing in front of their home fans against Sanford at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Montezuma-Cortez, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-0 win against Pagosa Springs on the 30th.
