Basketball Recap: Zackyra Washington's Big Game Can't Quite Lead La Plata over Southern Maryland Christian Academy

La Plata was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 47-45 heartbreaker at the hands of the Southern Maryland Christian Academy Mustangs. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 75-50 back in December of 2024.

Several Warriors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Zackyra Washington, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 22 boards. Washington has been hot, having posted eight or more rebounds the last seven times she's played. Aniyah Sisco was another key player, putting up 18 points and six boards.

La Plata's loss dropped their record down to 1-11. As for Southern Maryland Christian Academy, their win ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 5-5.

La Plata wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 78-28 defeat against North Point on the 22nd. As for Southern Maryland Christian Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 58-57 loss against Fredericksburg Christian on the 23rd.
