Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for ALA - Queen Creek

ALA - Queen Creek had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Estrella Foothills on Monday. ALA - Queen Creek blew past Estrella Foothills 21-10. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by six runs or more this season.

Chloe Varvel was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, scoring five runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Those five runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Matea Webster, who went 3-for-4 with seven RBI, two stolen bases, and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sadie Nielson, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.

ALA - Queen Creek was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. They are 5-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The win was the third in a row for ALA - Queen Creek, bringing their record up to 7-5. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Estrella Foothills, they are on a 14-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-13.

Coming up, ALA - Queen Creek will host ALA - Gilbert North at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. ALA - Queen Creek is facing ALA - Gilbert North at the right time seeing as ALA - Gilbert North is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Estrella Foothills, they will welcome Peoria at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The contest will give Estrella Foothills their first taste of in-conference action this season.
