Preview: Hay Springs Hawks vs. Creek Valley Storm
The Hay Springs Hawks will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Creek Valley Storm at 5:00 p.m. Hopefully Hay Springs focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Tuesday.
Even though Hay Springs has not done well against Hemingford recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way. Hay Springs came out on top against Hemingford by a score of 45-34. The victory was just what Hay Springs needed coming off of a 72-28 defeat in their prior contest.
Hay Springs' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Alexa Tonjes, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds. Those ten rebounds set a new season-high mark for Tonjes. Gabby Twarling was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with eight rebounds and five assists.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Creek Valley, who are still winless after their fifth contest. They had to suffer through a rough 68-13 loss at the hands of Morrill. Creek Valley was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-11.
Hay Springs' victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Creek Valley, they bumped their record down to 0-5 with that loss, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.
Everything came up roses for Hay Springs against Creek Valley in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 as the team secured a 79-25 win. With Hay Springs ahead 46-13 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
