Conant is 1-9 against Lake Park since April of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Cougars will host the Lancers at 4:45 p.m.
Conant's last matchup with Maine West could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's matchup on Thursday. The Cougars came up short against the Warriors, falling 10-3. The loss put an end to the Cougars' undefeated start to the season.
Ava Falcone was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. Charlotte Wolf was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Lake Park strolled into their game on Thursday with a perfect record and they left with the same. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Padua Franciscan a 10-0 shutout. Considering the Lancers have won three games by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Gianna Furlano tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 6.3 strikeouts per game.
At the plate, Arianna O'Connell was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexandra Kiefer, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Lake Park was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Lake Park's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-0. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 9.8 runs this season. As for Conant, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.
Conant's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's contest. The Cougars have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Lake Park, though, as they've been averaging only 0.4 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Conant continue to outrun the ball?
