Basketball Game Preview: Lincoln-Way Central Knights vs. Sandburg Eagles

Lincoln-Way Central and Sandburg are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2014, but not for long. The Lincoln-Way Central Knights will venture away from home to square off against the Sandburg Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Last Tuesday, Lincoln-Way Central came up short against Mother McAuley and fell 50-38. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 213th, while the Mighty Macs are ranked 43rd).

Meanwhile, Sandburg hadn't done well against Homewood-Flossmoor recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Sandburg sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 46-44 victory over Homewood-Flossmoor. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.

Sandburg is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a massive bump to their 10-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.6 points per game. As for Lincoln-Way Central, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 12 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season.

Lincoln-Way Central and Sandburg were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, but Lincoln-Way Central came up empty-handed after a 50-49 defeat. Can Lincoln-Way Central avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
