Baseball Recap: Wellsville Tigers vs. Malvern Hornets

Wellsville had lost five straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 3-19 to make it six. They fell 11-6 to the Malvern Hornets. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hornets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-1 back in April.

Richie Wyse made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Leland Monte, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

As for Malvern, their record now sits at 8-14. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

On Malvern's side, they got a great performance from Jared Witherow as he struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. That's the most strikeouts Witherow has posted since back in April.

On the hitting side, Malvern let Cameron Good and Owen Warth run wild. Good went 4-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base, while Warth went 4-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Warth is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Dakota Barger was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Wellsville does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Malvern, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 9-2 victory against Aquinas on the 16th.
