Baseball Recap: Poplarville Now 10-1 over Last 11 Games

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Poplarville walked away with it. They were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over the Morton Panthers on Thursday. Considering the Hornets have won ten matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Chadwick Brown looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in 14 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Brock Sheppard was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Ty Keys was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Poplarville is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Morton, they are on a 14-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-18.

Poplarville will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Panthers: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
