Softball Recap: Springstead Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Win

Springstead had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 16-run drubbing they dealt Weeki Wachee on Friday. The Eagles' pitchers stepped up to hand the Hornets a 16-0 shutout. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by seven runs or more this season.

Alivia Miller made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run and two RBI.

In other pitching news, Madison Mayon looked comfortable as she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single hit in four consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Kaylana Lyons was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. ElleAnn Cephus also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Springstead always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .833. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory was the fifth in a row for Springstead, bringing their record up to 10-1. As for Weeki Wachee, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-9 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Springstead will square off against Clearwater at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Weeki Wachee, they will challenge Citrus at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
