Recap: Woodward Academy War Eagles vs. Houston County Bears
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Woodward Academy War Eagles had no problem doing just that on Friday. Everything went their way against the Bears as they made off with a 27-7 win. Winning may never get old, but Woodward Academy sure are getting used to it with their ninth in a row.
Lucas Farrington was the offensive standout of the match as he rushed for 146 yards and a touchdown.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Houston County to a paltry 222 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Woodward Academy's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out five times before it was all said and done. Houston County's QB won't forget Christian Bell anytime soon given Bell sacked him twice.
Despite the defeat, Houston County had strong showings from Ricky Johnson, who picked up 116 receiving yards and a touchdown, and Ryan Taleb, who rushed for 27 yards. Johnson was no stranger to the big play, connecting with a big catch that went for 69 yards.
Woodward Academy's win bumped their record up to 10-2. As for Houston County, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-3.
Woodward Academy will face off against Gainesville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Gainesville is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. Houston County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
