Softball Recap: Timpview Thunderbirds vs. Cedar Valley Aviators
Timpview had lost 11 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 1-16 to make it 12. They came up short against the Cedar Valley Aviators, falling 13-3. That's two games in a row now that the Thunderbirds have lost by exactly ten runs.
Timpview saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Memphis Carr, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one run. That hit marked the first that Carr has got this season.
As for Cedar Valley, they moved to 15-11 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.
On Cedar Valley's side, Makaylee Barnes made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Those seven strikeouts gave Barnes a new career-high. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Alexis Jenson was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Eva Okusi, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Timpview will venture away from home to square off against Salem Hills at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Skyhawks' pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so the Thunderbirds' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Cedar Valley, they will head out on the road to face off against Spanish Fork at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
