Basketball Recap: Cambridge Academy Cougars vs. Laurens Academy Crusaders
The Cambridge Academy Cougars pushed their score all the way to 68 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 69-68 to Laurens Academy. Cambridge Academy has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Cambridge Academy's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Maddox Lee, who scored 29 points along with six rebounds and two steals, and Andrew Wiley who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Lee also posted two blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Bradley Funderburk, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Cambridge Academy has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-13 record this season. As for Laurens Academy, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-15.
Cambridge Academy will square off against the Warriors at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in South Carolina (Oconee Christian Academy is ranked 269th, while the Cougars are ranked 265th). Laurens Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
