Softball Game Preview: Millbrook Wildcats vs. Broughton Capitals

For the second straight game, Millbrook will face off against Broughton. The Wildcats will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Capitals at 3:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Millbrook has five straight victories, Broughton has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Millbrook is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Broughton 17-1 on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Millbrook let Alayna Pitman and Emerson Myers run wild. Pitman got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Myers got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four RBI and one run. Those four RBI gave Myers a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lillyanne Smith, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

Millbrook always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .561. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Broughton's loss dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Millbrook, their victory bumped their record up to 7-4.

Broughton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Millbrook has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Broughton, though, as they've been averaging 11.1 hits. Given Millbrook's sizable advantage in that area, the Capitals will need to find a way to close that gap.
