Basketball Recap: Chesney Marshall Key Part of a Team Effort in Plainsmen Win

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Oakley ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They walked away with a 42-32 victory over the Norton Bluejays. Given the Plainsmen's advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 91st, while the Bluejays are ranked 221st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Oakley got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Chesney Marshall out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine boards. Another player making a difference was Emma Mandeville, who posted seven points in addition to nine rebounds and three steals.

Oakley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 30 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Despite the loss, Norton still got an impressive performance from Hallie Brooks, who went 5 of 11 en route to 13 points along with five boards and four steals. That was a full 40.6% of Norton's points, marking the eighth time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points.

Oakley pushed their record up to 5-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. As for Norton, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Oakley wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 45-21 win against Trego on the 17th. As for Norton, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 41-19 loss against Phillipsburg on the 17th.
