Leon is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Friday. After each having a week off, they and the Normangee Panthers will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:30 p.m. Leon is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Last Friday, Leon took their game with ease, bagging a 42-14 win over Bruceville-Eddy. Considering the Cougars have won four contests by more than 27 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Landon Thomas continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 149 yards and a pair of scores on only nine carries, while also throwing for 132 yards and one TD while completing 75% of his passes.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Leon proved: they limited Bruceville-Eddy to a paltry 3.2 yards per carry. The team can thank Brady Rohrer for the heroic effort on defense: he. Leon didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 10.9.
Leon didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Thomas.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Normangee duked it out with Rosebud-Lott last Friday. The Panthers were dealt a 28-0 loss at the hands of the Cougars. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Panthers were not able to get on the board.
Leon's victory bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Normangee, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: Leon has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 365 total yards per game. It's a different story for Normangee, though, as they've been averaging only 211 total yards. Will Leon be able to march up the field at their leisure again, or will the Panthers flip the script?
Everything came up roses for Leon against Normangee in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 34-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
