Softball Recap: Florence Comes Up Short

Florence dropped their record down to 12-20 on Saturday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They came up short against the Colbert County Indians, falling 11-0. That's two games in a row now that the Falcons have lost by exactly 11 runs.

As for Colbert County, they now have a winning record of 15-14-1. Considering they have won 11 matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

For Colbert County's part, Makayli Davis made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Davis has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 14 contests.

In other batting news, Mallory Gargis was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 13 games. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylee Holland, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Florence will take on Haleyville at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Colbert County, they will face off against Red Bay at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Indians are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a 15-game losing streak.
