Baseball Recap: Somerset Academy Takes a Loss

Somerset Academy lost against Florida Christian back in April of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Somerset Academy took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Florida Christian. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Liam DeCicco was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Alan Sanchez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases. He is becoming a predictor of Somerset Academy's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 4-2 (and 4-7 when he doesn't). Orlando Ramos also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Somerset Academy now has a losing record of 8-9. As for Florida Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.

Somerset Academy will be taking part in a tournament against Calvary Christian Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Florida Christian, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Springstead at 7:15 p.m. Florida Christian's pitchers better be ready for this one: Springstead has averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season.
