Baseball Recap: Pomperaug Continues Home Dominance on Thursday

Pomperaug lost to Weston back in April of 2023, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Panthers skirted past the Trojans 5-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Panthers.

Brandon Schussler was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Franklin Filipone looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Alex Augustine, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Pane, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Pomperaug pushed their record up to 9-12 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 2.5 runs across that stretch. As for Weston, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-11.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Pomperaug is set to face off against their familiar foe Bethel at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Weston will challenge rival New Milford at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.
