Monroe Catholic faced Valdez in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Rams lost 3-0 to the Buccaneers. The Rams' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

While Monroe Catholic ultimately came up short, they really made Valdez work, particularly in the second set. The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 26-24, 25-22.

Monroe Catholic's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 9-3-2. As for Valdez, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 25-7 record this season.

While Monroe Catholic had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
