The Maynard Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Tahanto Regional Stags at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Maynard is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
It was a proper cat-fight when Maynard challenged West Boylston on Friday. The Tigers fell just short of the Lions by a score of 7-6.
Max Mandler and Max Cedeno stepped up to the plate in a big way. Mandler got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Cedeno went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Tahanto Regional beat Narragansett Regional 7-3 on Wednesday.
Luke Stevens made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single hit and allowed only one earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He also allowed no hits, which is notable because Tahanto Regional is 3-1 when he allows at most three hits, but 2-3 otherwise. Stevens was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jack Allen, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Tom Chamberlain also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Tahanto Regional has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Maynard, their loss dropped their record down to 9-3.
Tahanto Regional's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Maynard has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .492. It's a different story for Tahanto Regional, though, as they've only averaged .342. Will they be able to contain Maynard's hitters?
Maynard skirted past Tahanto Regional 4-3 in their previous matchup back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
