Softball Recap: University Lab Takes a Loss

After soaring to 18 runs the game before, University Lab was a bit more limited in their match on Wednesday. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bourgeois Braves. The game marked the Cubs' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Gabby Fontenot spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up 13 Ks. What's more, she gave up only one walk, the fewest she's had since back in March of 2024.

At the plate, Morgan Jackson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Jackson is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season.

University Lab's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Bourgeois, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1.

University Lab wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 23-8 victory against Hammond on the 27th. As for Bourgeois, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 13-7 win against Covenant Christian Academy on the 27th.
