Basketball Recap: Wayne Badgers vs. Gunnison Valley Bulldogs
Wayne fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Gunnison Valley on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 68-54 bruising from the Gunnison Valley Bulldogs. The Badgers haven't had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
Despite the loss, Wayne still got an impressive performance from Brayden Lee, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Peterson, who posted 15 points.
Braxton Pickett continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Gunnison Valley, almost dropping a double-double on 22 points and nine boards. With that strong performance, Pickett is now averaging an impressive 16 points per game. Another player making a difference was Kaydon Whitlock, who earned eight points and nine rebounds.
Wayne now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Gunnison Valley, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-1.
Wayne will head out to square off against Piute at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Wayne is facing Piute at the right time seeing as Piute is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Gunnison Valley, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 61-55 victory against St. Joseph on the 9th.
