The Monroe Academy Volunteers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their eighth straight loss dating back to last season. They took a 42-31 hit to the loss column at the hands of Sparta Academy. The contest was a 15-15 toss-up at halftime, but Monroe Academy was outscored by Sparta Academy in the second.
It was another big night for Logan Robinson, who scored 19 points along with nine rebounds for Sparta Academy. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Robinson has scored at least 25% of Sparta Academy's points. Murfee Williams was another key contributor, scoring five points along with ten rebounds and three blocks.
Monroe Academy's defeat was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-1. As for Sparta Academy, their win bumped their record up to 4-5.
Monroe Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Morgan Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 4, 2024. As for Sparta Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Hooper Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hooper Academy is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.
