IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) has produced some of high school football's best over the last seven years. Ryan Downes might be the next big thing for the Ascenders.

Now Downes is drawing the spotlight — as an eighth-grader.

The 6-foot-4, 200-pound quarterback played for IMG's varsity team last season as a 14-year-old and threw for 623 yards and six touchdowns while splitting time under center. Downes already has offers from Indiana, Kansas and Brown.

According to Bleacher Report, he will reclassify to the Class of 2025 and spend next season traveling with IMG's national team as he prepares for the 2021 season. He will get a chance to learn under five-star signal caller J.J. McCarthy, who transferred to the national power earlier this week.
