Baseball Game Preview: Holy Cross Crusaders vs. Mid Valley Spartans

Holy Cross hasn't had much luck against Mid Valley recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Crusaders are taking a road trip to take on the Spartans at 6:00 p.m. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Holy Cross is headed into Monday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Wednesday. They fell 4-1 to Western Wayne.

Kyle Cortazar spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Mid Valley's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of Elk Lake by a score of 3-2.

Mid Valley also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and he was also dialed-in: Lorenzo Hernandez gave up just two earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 11 Ks.

On the hitting side, Mid Valley saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anthony Balashaitis, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Holy Cross now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Mid Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 7-2.

Holy Cross might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Mid Valley in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Crusaders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
