Baseball Game Preview: Morgan Trojans vs. Union Cougars

Morgan is 1-8 against Union since March of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Trojans will welcome the Cougars at 3:30 p.m. Morgan will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Morgan and American Leadership Academy meet (five straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Monday. The Trojans were the clear victors by a 17-8 margin over the Eagles. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won seven matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Kanyon Leonelli was a standout: he scored four runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Easton Venz was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4.

Morgan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .323 or higher in six consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Union came up short against Lehi last Monday, falling 12-2. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Morgan's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Union, their loss dropped their record down to 12-4.

Morgan couldn't quite get it done against Union in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 7-3. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
