Basketball Recap: Apex Takes a Loss

Apex lost against Green Level back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Apex Cougars came up short against the Green Level Gators, falling 71-51. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 427th, while the Gators are ranked 17th).

When it comes to explaining why Apex lost, don't look at Zaelyn White. Despite the final result, he went 6 for 10 on his way to 15 points. The contest was White's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Chip Persson, who posted five points.

Green Level's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Trevor Manhertz, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten assists. Manhertz is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Israel Eatman was another key player, going 7 of 14 en route to 18 points.

Apex's loss was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-14. As for Green Level, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 14-2.

Apex will head out on the road to take on Cary at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Apex is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53 points per game this season. As for Green Level, they will host Panther Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Green Level also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 61 points per game.
