Gillespie has gone 9-1 against Pana recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Miners will challenge the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. Gillespie will be strutting in after a victory while Pana will be coming in after a defeat.
Gillespie barely beat Collinsville the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Miners put the hurt on the Kahoks with a sharp 15-2 win on Monday. The Miners might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by seven runs or more this season.
Paxton Reid made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Laci Schuckenbrock was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. She also put up a home run, which was her first of the season. Delaney Taylor was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Gillespie always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .677. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Pana was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of Tri-City.
Like Gillespie, Pana also got a great game from a two-way player: Joey Laker. On the mound, she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave Laker a new career-low. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple.
In other batting news, Izzy Reed made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one triple and one run.
Gillespie is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Pana, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Gillespie hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Pana struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Gillespie took their win against Pana in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 7-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Miners since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
