Softball Game Preview: Springfield Tigers vs. New Ulm Cathedral Greyhounds

Springfield hasn't had much luck against New Ulm Cathedral recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Tigers will square off against the Greyhounds at 4:30 p.m.

Springfield managed to slip by Windom the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Tigers lost 10-0 to the Eagles on Thursday. The Tigers' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it six in a row.

Meanwhile, New Ulm Cathedral entered their tilt with Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Tuesday with six consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with seven. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Mustangs an 8-0 shutout. The Greyhounds might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by eight runs or more this season.

New Ulm Cathedral pushed their record up to 7-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.4 runs on average over those games. As for Springfield, their loss dropped their record down to 4-14.

Springfield couldn't quite get it done against New Ulm Cathedral in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 8-5. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
