Basketball Recap: Eastern Comes Up Short

Eastern extended their losing streak to eight on Tuesday, dropping them down to 2-15. They had to suffer through a 64-20 loss at the hands of the Orleans Bulldogs. While losing is never fun, the Musketeers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 416th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 85th).

As for Orleans, the win (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 16-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.9 points over those games.

Leading Orleans to victory were Owen Gilbert and Alex DeWitt. Gilbert shot 78% from the field en route to 20 points, while DeWitt went 6-for-9 on his way to 16 points in addition to six rebounds and five blocks. Gilbert continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Blaise Tolliver also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

Coming up, Eastern will take on Corydon Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Musketeers will be up against the Panthers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 50.5 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Orleans, they will square off against Paoli at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs will need to watch out since the Rams have now posted at least 55 points in their last six contests.
