Softball Game Preview: Conner Cougars vs. Franklin County Flyers

The Conner Cougars will head out to take on the Franklin County Flyers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Conner is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.

On Thursday, Conner made easy work of Lloyd Memorial and carried off a 12-2 win. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Juggernauts recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Bayli Bell spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up nine Ks. Those nine strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Conner got a big performance out of Addison Santiago, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits Santiago has posted since back in May of 2024. Riley Roseburrough also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Franklin County entered their tilt with Western Hills on Tuesday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against the Wolverines. Surprisingly, this marked the Flyers' fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

The team relied heavily on Carlie Olds, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

Conner's record now sits at 6-9. As for Franklin County, their record is now 12-5.

Conner might still be hurting after the 13-2 defeat they got from Franklin County when the teams last played back in April of 2017. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
